Eden Restored: Middle East & North Africa
The Middle East/North African garden features a smiling, affectionate couple in wedding attire underneath a date palm tree. Flowers in the painting include the Algerian peony, Egyptian starflower, Veronica syriaca, dianthus, and iris marine. In the foreground are three Nubian ibex, and in the background an Arabian camel.
The close scale of the couple in this painting reflects the hospitable, family-oriented nature of Middle Eastern culture. The couple is based on newlywed couples from both the Arab world and Israel reflecting biblical belief that these nations have a shared prominent role in the earth. (Isaiah 19:24-25) The featured biblical gemstone in this painting is beryl, which can come in many colors, including pink.
Approximately 3ft x 7ft (.91x2.13m) Acrylic and dye on silk. The dyes have been set permanently using a steam-setting process. The top includes a sewn-in compartment for inserting a rod or wire for hanging.
As seen in NYC, Paris, and Tokyo
